Niigata Station Bandai Exit
Fukiya Kouji is an artist, illustrator, poet and director of animated films born in Shibata.
Take a walk along Teramachi Street which has a Edo Period ambience and visit Houkouji Temple, which is a family temple of the Mizoguchi Family of Shibata Clan of Edo Period. Their family cemetary is impressive and interesting to know about the Samurai culture from.
You will be able to know how a lord of the Edo Period led life by viewing the beautiful garden and the villa of The Mizoguchi Family, and how the life of lower ranked samurai lived by seeing their houses.
Visit the long loved Aumont Sake Brewery and enjoy tasting some of their sake of pride.
The shrine revered over 1400 years has a symbolic large pillar brought from the main Suwa Shrine in Nagano. Visit the shrine and make a wish for prosperity, health and longevity of your family. Near the shrine, a guesthouse of a successful businessman from Shibata, Ohkura Kihachirou, was moved from Tokyo to Shibata, is open to the public from April 2023. Admission: 500 yen each. Open except Thursdays.

Shibata Castle is closed from December 1 to March 31. During the time, you can view just the outlook of the property.
I will take you to Shibata by JR train. Basically we will walk and look around the city. We will take a community bus/ a taxi to get to the furthest spot, Shibata Castle and walk down to the central area. Please be prepared with comfortable shoes or sneakers. Admission fees: Shimizuen 700 yen, Houkouji 200 yen, Fukiya Kouji Museum 510 yen, Aumont Brewery about 1000 yen.
